Biography
Dr. Oriol Bestard began his medical training at the Autonomous Barcelona University in 1994. In 2000 he graduated and subsequently started the Residency in Nephrology at Bellvitge University Hospital, where in 2005 he also carried out his fellowship in Transplant Nephrology under the supervision of Professor Josep M. Grinyó. From 2006-2008 he made a fellowship program in Transplant Immunology at Charité University of Medicine under the supervision of Prof. Petra Reinke and Prof H-D Volk, where he also made his Ph.D.
He is currently a faculty member of the Transplant Nephrology team at Bellvitge University Hospital (Barcelona, Spain) and is an Associate professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona. Dr. Oriol Bestard also owns an own research group at IDIBELL (Barcelona), which the main focus of interest is immune-monitoring anti-viral and allogeneic adaptive immune responses using novel immune assays with the aim of trying to individualize the treatment of kidney transplant patients.
